I always find it ironically amusing in a very dark way when someone espouses hard-line social Darwinism and justifies it by saying that they were treated like shit and coped, so everyone else should just harden the fuck up.
I'd suggest that your lack of empathy and understanding is a direct consequence of how you were treated at school. So, contrary to what you believe, the bullying and name-calling you were subjected to did indeed have a long-term impact on the person you have become.
