I think it's 100% normal. I'm a lazy texter myself! And unless me and my gf or friends are engaging in passionate debate, or topic, then I'll likely take hours to text back too. Lazy texters can't help it :P
If you do want him to text more often maybe trying engaging in a debate? Find out what he's passionate about. My girlfriend found out I LOOVEEE debating politics so now she always asks me political questions, and sometimes we'll spend days texting none stop. And that gets us closer.
