Is it normal that I started drinking at the age of 12?

  • I remember taking my first sip of beer when I was 5-6 years old. I didn't like the taste of it and reminded me of cold medicine back then or something similar. I fist got drunk when I was 11-12 years of age and loved how it made me feel. I would get drunk on and off rarely over the years. Im now 20 going on 21 and haven't been drunk in awhile. I recently tried drinking a strong tequila and felt like throwing up after taking each sip,I guess its too strong? So yea I guess its normal as long as it doesn't affect your life.

    • Hi Dreamboat,
Thank you for responding. I was struck by the similarities that we share. I also got drunk at 12 and now I'm 20 and I hate drinking, even though now I am in college and almost all of my friends drink. I rarely ever drink now, so I feel very left out sometimes, but alcohol just reminds me of my past.

      • No problem. Its a good thing that you don't drink with your friends because that would just make you want to drink more and more causing you to have more problems like you stated in your post. Not only that but you can do some pretty stupid things that you normally wouldn't do while sober. Im also in college but don't drink with friends or anything. If i had the option to choose between weed and alcohol I would choose weed in a heart beat. I think its harmless compared to alcohol.

        • Yes, marijuana is much less dangerous than alcohol. It has been really tough for me to stop drinking especially in my stage of life, when most of my peers are always looking for the next opportunity to be inebriated. But you're right, drinking alcohol is just one regret that leads to more regrets.
