Is it normal that i start dreaming immediately after falling asleep?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always started dreaming shortly after falling asleep. Like within seconds. I know this because there’s been many times where I’ve only been asleep for 2-5 minutes and I’ve had vivid dreams. Sometimes I’ll even start dreaming before fully falling asleep and it’ll startle me awake. Just wondering how normal this is because it was my understanding that dreams don’t start until REM sleep which happens later in the sleep cycle.

The average person dreams 7 times a night, so yes.

I've been having a lot of kinda weird dreams lately, and I felt like my dream last night was particularly interesting, but then I forgot about it after being awake for a few hours. I wish I could discipline myself to write down my dreams.

Keep a dream journal on your nightstand and write them down as sonars you wake up.

I don't know how long time it takes, if I am completely unconscious for a certain period I won't be aware of time passing either
