Is it normal that i stare into nothing?

So sometimes I have the urge to stare blankly at nothing and when I do I feel this nice sensation in my eyes and as I'm staring I think of nothing. When I try to look away it feels weird like as if you were about to drift off into sleep and someone abruptly wakes you up. What is that and is there a reason why I do it? I've seen other people do it to, like my dad.

Sounds like daydreaming or staring into space. Looking away does feel weird, I hate when someone calls my name while I'm doing it because I feel like I have to look away when I'm ready to. It's kind of relaxing.

I know that feeling too! In my case sometimes I feel like wanting to look else where but I'm like hypnotized or something. It's kind of dangerous sometimes because it can happen at anytime, even when I'm driving.

Someone once told me that it meant like you are mentally exhausted and it's like your mind kind of pauses and falls asleep for a bit. I guess it's like sleeping with your eyes open. It feels good because you have many things in your head and staring at nothing is like pausing and just think of nothing for a bit

i used to refer to it as zoning out. Sometimes you just crave it for no reason. Only difference is, I couldn't always control when it happened to me lol

Just be sure you don't do it during something important like driving!

I feel like a cold-blooded reptile when I do this. I've see them in zoos standing totally still, doing nothing at all, then they'll suddenly get back into action. I do this all the time when my brain is tired but my body isn't.

  • You mean daydreaming?

Ya, I do that a lot. I like to call it being "lost in thought," it sounds better.
