It really all depends on the cat you know. My cat prefers to sleep on my butt, hip or by my feet. I would prefer if he was a spooner who sleep by my side or even up near my head, but no he has his own preferences, because he's a cat so I have to respect his weird ways.
Instead of using a cat for a cuddle surrogate in place of a man, why don't you just have a drink with a cute miniature umbrella in it. It should cheer you up. Sunny skies, butterflies, and rainbows to everybody.
