Is it normal that i sometimes wish i were a kid again?

I enjoy adulthood and all, but sometimes I'd love to just be able to feel the simplest joy that I did as a child, over something as simple as playing outside on a nice day, blowing bubbles, etc. Something so simple can make a child so happy. I miss that sort of simplicity about life and the carefree feeling as well. Sometimes I even miss things like exploring my grandparents' house and making blanket forts, and thinking something as small as sleeping in the living room with a movie on TV and a pillow and a sleeping bag was an "adventure".

Is It Normal?

  • No. My childhood sucked. I love the independence of adulthood and that I can earn my own money doing what I love.

  • It is normal, but it is due to Euphoric Recall. We edit our memories to remember only the good and not the negative. We forget about having to ask permission for everything and sometimes being told no and not knowing why. Not having independence and being told where and when to go. But it is natural to remember only the good. I had an old girlfriend and thought about only the good times and couldn't imagine why I broke up with her. Then we met for lunch, then I remembered all her habits that drove me crazy.

    • That's very true. Recently, I was surprised to find that I was actually missing high school again because of how carefree it felt, how I was just starting to get a feel for responsibility and freedom and how exciting that felt, hanging out with friends all the time without a worry in the world, homework being my biggest worry, etc. I forgot that I hated high school when I was there because of all of the high school politics and drama, still not being able to make as many of your own decisions, and just the regular struggles of being an adolescent. I remembered the fun with my friends and the excitement.

  • There is a line between reminiscing about the great times and friends, and the pathological zone of thinking you are really just a child in an adult body. For sure you can dream about the memories but don’t start telling people you’re really a kid, because that is dysfunctional. Everyone should have some good memories that help them forge ahead in life.

    • Oh no, I don't think I'm still a kid or tell people that, I just miss it sometimes. Being an adult is still great, but there's times when watching children get the biggest joy out of the smallest things makes me miss when life was still that simple for me.

  • It is normal. You just gotta be true to yourself in order for you to be free. Sometimes it is our mind that actually limits us from doing and feeling what we wanted to do or feel :) just be yourself, as long as you are not doing anything bad then you should be fine. Besides, who doesn't miss the innocence of being a kid? I doubt there is.

  • Aww, Hell yeah! I loved being a kid. What sucks worse than being an adult is being an adolescent though.

  • Very normal unless you had a rough childhood. Most people want to be a child once again. They would be lying if they don't want to.

  • I wish I could go back as a teenager. If I had what I have now mentally back then I'd be a millionaire already. Those days were so fun. Partying everyday, sex with girls, no kids, didnt matter if I got fired from my job. Being a drug dealer is great when you're young if you dont get caught. Everyone wants you at the party, girls want to fuck you. Man life was good... something about not knowing where you are going to sleep that night is fun when you're that age. Always meeting new people and girls. I got so many stories

  • Completely normal, a lot of people just enjoyed life more as a kid.
But you don’t have to wish, you can act childish when appropriate, or just in free time, it can be pretty fun to do something you would as a kid and just not think about what “people would think of it”.
