  • Very cringeworthy and pretty stupid. I worked in bars for years and customers that give tips like this are not thought very highly of. Yeah sure, I'll take your money and be nice but it comes off real pathetic, creepy and desperate. And don't be too sure that the other girls won't know just because they didn't see. We talk. We're often pretty friendly with each other and we usually watch out for one another whether we're friends or not. We discuss most of the regular customers. If a customer tips unfairly like this, some girls will share it with the others anyway.

Tip normal based on who serves you and how well. It would be best to use cash and just tip $2.00 or so each time you get a drink. Tipping each time makes it easy to get the money directly to the one working for you and it sorta makes you a higher priority customer. Plus some businesses take a % of credit card tips, and tips paid this way are put through payroll so it gets taxed. It sucks.

    • I know they sometimes share tips, especially on weekends. I just see no problem with rewarding those who do give good service, and, not to be mean here, but...Going minimum or low on those who don't. Sorry, you need to do your job and earn it. And the place I go to, let's just say, all the girls aren't all chummy with each other. Most, yes, but they also know who brings them down and who people, male and female, will go in for and who they won't.

That's really what this is all about to me..Why should I have to tip someone who's crabby, unattentive (as in..empty glass sits there as she walks by, or I have the menu on the edge of the bar, signaling I'm ready to order food), and just lousy at her job. And maybe I slipped the other one money because she works another job and supports herself on next to squat every month..
