I do something similar.... but not because I like showering in the dark.
In my bathroom the tub & toilet are separate from the sink area with their own separate lights. I usually shower with the light from the bathroom sink spilling in through the doorway.
Why? Because the light in the shower area is connected to an overhead fan that sounds horrible. I would rather have a dim shower than listen to that motor.
Is it normal That I shower in the dark?

my bathroom does not have a fan instead it has one of those windows you can open / close
