Is it normal that i refuse to take medicine when sick?

I've noticed that ever since I graduated high school I stopped getting sick as often as I would as a kid. I came from having many allergies and was adviced to stay away from these things to avoid becoming sick. The thing is that I was allergic to these things, now after years of jus listening to my self and exposing myself to these allergens ( mainly animals, certain foods, and nature type stuff ) I have in a sense became immune to these allergies or jus about completely disappeared. The thing is now I only get sick from a common cold or things like that about once or twice in a year. Like right now I'm currently sick, like when you cough and it makes ur body ache accompanied with a fever n shit like that. What my question was if it's normal to refuse to take medicine for these things?because I have seen it play out where my body naturally heals its self over time. I kinda see it in a way that if I take medicine it would only make my body rely on medicine more than to actually have my body take care of it's self naturally like before with my allergy situation. I mean is it normal to think that this is intact what's happening/ making me make this desicion? Or has anyone else experienced somethig like that?

Is It Normal?

  • Some people pop pills for everything, it doesn't allow there immune system get stronger on it's own which means the body, whenever sick will soon rely on that pill to save itself. I work in literally the filthest place and I never get sick and never take pills, it's because my immune system is naturally very strong.

  • Your perceived acquired immunity to pathogens is just the result of getting older and developing an immunity. Many adolescent allergies are largely psychological in any case.

Common colds and flu are caused by viruses.

You can be vaccinated against them, but once you are infected and have a cold there are no medications for viruses.

You treat it symptomatically. Anything you take is intended to make you more comfortable and let your body's nature defenses deal with the illness and has no impact on the infecting agent.

    Might as well be comfortable.

  • I avoid taking medicine if I can, like a tylenol for a headache. I don't think you can get too dependent on cold medicine if you only take it once a year or something. But people who get sick a lot might because they get sick many times a year and might take medicine every time - and maybe that's why they get sick so much... I used to take cough medicine recreationaly and didn't get sick for 2 years after i hadn't touched it though so maybe it just depends on the medicine. Anti-biotics can definitely work against you though.

  • you could probably just take vitamins everyday to help your body boost its natural defenses like vitamin C and garlic which helps fight against colds. i take multivitamins everyday and i always cook with garlic and ginger and i havent had a cold or the flu for a long time.
stress can also make you sick so every night after dinner, i have a cup of lavender tea which helps me relax and sleep better and its very important to sleep well.
