Is it normal that i refuse to put my mother in a nursing home?

My mother is getting old (She's 59) and when she becomes helpless and grey, I vow, as her daughter, to take care of her until her very last breath. I will not place her in a nursing home like how the general concensus of children do. Is it normal?

Nursing homes are bad, but it hurts your conscious and hurt their expectations, SO I'M WITH YOU, DEAR!

I'm with you. Some nursing homes are filthy and disgusting, have poor staff, and the residents are treated poorly.

And, even in the most sanitary homes with the best staff, there are still germs which could pose as a threat to your loved one. Not to mention the obvious point that your elderly loved one would probably prefer to stay at their home with their family and friends, not be thrown into unfamiliar surroundings with strangers.

  • Though we aren't 'refusing' to put my grandmother (she is 73 with bad Parkinsons Disease) in a nursing home, we are strong in believing that she deserves better here at home.

So you're not the only one :)
