I would probably challenge him about his previous comments. I would say to him, If I were gay, what would you think of me. Would you want to whip my ass or would you want to explain that position. Ask him then if he ever knew of any guys that were gay or had that feeling about them.
If you word if right, even if he is a asshole, you should be able to explain your position.
Then again, if he is an asshole about you being gay, then tell him that he has a choice. Either accept or not. If not, you would prefer not to see him.
