I'd love to hear a followup story on this situation. You have my support (worth 5000 anonymous internet value units) whatever the case (for this situation based on what I know about you; I hope you'll understand I can't grant my full moral support for your life success since I don't know if you're a cannibal, necromancer, Baptist, etc).
He better not try to literally make good on that bogus child beating threat with you now being grown (enough to construct good sentences, at least). My only unique suggestion would be to bring a good ol roll of quarters or an axe handle (no blade) or something stashed away so if he does get that idea the story can at least end with you showing it that a gay boy can whoop it's old man ass. (Incidentally, a good reason for keeping in contact might be to not miss out on the wonderful years of enjoyment watching his physical decline with age, which can be pretty funny for children at times)
