It is likely you have a very intuitive mind that makes random neural connections: therefore a thing your sub-conciousness (thought) it saw whilst driving fired off a quick succession of neural activity, thus causing you to remember a deep-seated memory from long ago...
and depending on the circumstances at the time e.g. waking abruptly during the dream will make you forget the details of the dream, or waking up at the end of the dream and spending ages going over most every detail will make it a crystal clear memory...
