Some standards do too. I had an 87 mustang with a stick and cruise.
Older non-computerized cars had a problem (my mustang did too) where if you slipped it into neutral without pushing the clutch in (which disengaged cruise like the brake) the car would naturally slow down out of gear, the cruise would call for more throttle quickly going wide open and the engine would run away.
I'd do it for fun once in a while and catch it before it got out of control, but I'm sure some folks had trouble with it. I had an automatic that I could do the same with, but that was a 77.
IIN that I prefer driving manual (stick shift) cars over automatics?

Also, automatics have cruise control.
I concur, preference depends on the car.
