Is it normal that i often find poor people annoying?

I know I should be grateful for living a more affluent life. I know some people are just unfortunate, but I can't help but be annoyed by a lot of poor people. Financial aid gives them practically full rides to $50,000+ universities, and it is not merit based. I have over $100,000 in loans out, which will not be paid until I'm at least 30. You always have to be considerate of the fact that they have less money, and I feel I have to be generous with them, otherwise they will miss out. They don't pay you back when they say they will. They make you change your activity because they don't want to be left out because they are poor. They complain about being poor. They are always trying to get free stuff out of you. They are not smart with money. If you get $10, don't go and buy cheap crap, save it for quality products that won't break in 5 hours. Get a fucking job or don't complain.

I know this does not apply to all poor people, just some observations of less affluent friends of mine.

  • If you are basing this on ONE annoying friend who happens to be poor, then why on Earth would you make a whole ranting post about how "poor people" are annoying?!

Poor people are not annoying, it's people with shitty uniformed attitudes--like you have--that are annoying.

you should call those people users not poor people. There are also poor people who are good with money but just don't get much money.

It used to be that most poor people were poor because they spent all of their money on drugs, but nowadays, people just can't find work. I've seen college educated people getting food out of dumpsters. No joke.

You're complaining about poor people who make something of themselves? People who get that much in financial aid usually work hard to be eligible. Would you rather poor people stay poor, so you can have something to complain about, endlessly? People like you deserve to lose everything.

I think your annoying, I am a college student paying about the same thing in tuition, and can work a job up to 10 hours a week. Since every student's situation is a different case it really isn't your business to be discussing your friends' financial status on the internet. And, then I think you need to absorb some common sense, because it seems that you lack the ability to comprehend that just because a person is going to the same university doesn't necessarily mean that they are paying the same in tuition as you. Just because they are working a 10 hour a week job doesn't mean that they have 100 dollars to spend. Maybe you need to talk to your friend about why he can't afford the things he buys. For myself, I come from a very poor background, my family doesn't do much to help out financially. So, I don't always have the money from my paycheck sitting in the bank. I feel like I only work to get financial or I would not be graduating this year.

  • Why do you hang out with them if they annoy you this much?

  • It's none of your business what other people's situations are or what they've got or how they got it. You've no right to judge. Live and let live. You need to learn some humility.

it sounds more like you're not against the poor.... but perhaps against the people who turn welfare into a way of life instead of trying to get off the system... ?

They may be entitled to go to university but what about student loans compared to the 'poor' unemployed parents whose children don't have to pay fees?

I sort of agree with the OP coz I've been stung recently by a 'poor' pal until it emerged that she actually gets over £4,700+ a month with no rent or council tax to pay!! She's a foster parent and the £450/week per child doesn't effect their social security benefits including income support!!!
What a laugh! She was earning more money than working men's wages who are trying to keep a family and pay a mortgage!

I was paying every thing for her coz she initially told me she only got £70/week on income support.

WRF?? Thought it was funny she was able to smoke so much! Since discovered she's a shopaholic buying cheap crap!

I'm stunned at the fees for foster parents and their wages not counting towards tax. AND being paid on top of Income Support!!!

We are all missing a trick here!

I should pack them in, in bunk beds!!

          £450/week each one!

It does help, actually. My dad grew up really poor, so his family took in foster kids. The cost to add one more child to an already large household isn't that high.

Totally agree. Obviously, like you said, this doesn't apply to all ppl, but for a great many it's absolutely true and really messed up

  • You have to understand that if they're poor they won't have time to save up and buy quality products. Usually when people ask for $10 its because they need something there and now. So the saving up part is really out of the question for them. You have to cut them some slack on that. The economic system has gone to shits over there (from what I heard) so finding a job isn't easy and a lot of poor people do have jobs - some have two but they're still poor! Its not entirely their fault. I understand with the complaining and all but you won't understand the pain until you experience it for yourself.

There are poor people though that do ride off on the fact that they're poor and don't get jobs and sit around the house and do absolutey nothing. You know what? Don't give them the money if they ask for it because clearly if they don't have a job (and don't care about finding one) then what makes you think they're going to be able to pay you back? Then when they get the money they're going to spend it on beer or drugs or something else thats completely utterly useless.

As for the going out part - tell them about the place/prices in advance so they can know that they need to save up or tbh, just don't invite them out. That way they'll never know about it and you won't have a banging headache from their moaning.

I actually was referring to MULTIPLE (yea all caps is obnoxious) people, and although I find certain characteristics of my friends annoying (who doesn't), they are still my friends and I generally enjoy their company. Yes there are poor people who are good with money, just aren't good at earning it. Just like there are Asians who are bad at math. Although the average Asian is much better at math than the average non-asian. As I previously stated, if you actually read what I said and didn't just bith about the title, it is merely general observations of less affluent friends of mine. I know it is politically incorrect to find those who grew up less wealthy to be annoying, but it is. If you can't afford to join in an activity, stop bitching about and deal with the fact that life isn't all fair and equal sometimes. We all have our shortcomings.

Honestly I firmly believe anyone, if they have the desire can be affluent if they work for it. My dad grew up in a very poor neighborhood in Philadelphia, became the first person in his family to go to college, on a full ride. Then he went to Princeton for grad school, on a scholarship. Now he has a salary in the top 5%

I'm referring to people that got to my $50,000/year university, with a free tuition, housing and dining plan provided by financial aid and an on-campus job that pays about $10/hr., and they get to work over 10 hrs a week.. So they are getting $100 of spending money a week since financial aid gives them so much. That is more than I get, so I really hate when they complain. And by cheap crap I mean buying things for fun, not that they need. Then they complain that they can't afford things that I buy.

My rich brother once said whilst driving past a lesser well off area. "Don't look at them they're poor'.
Hmm, this must be how others perceive my situation too, very sad.
