I get something similar! I have attacks of "crocodile" skin, with rough, reddish lumps on my skin. Not everywhere, but all over my upper arms and chest. And, often, it becomes unbelievably itchy, and it is very hard to avoid scratching. Sometimes, I find a spot where I need to press a finger nail in so hard that I cut the skin.
I am undecided regarding the cause - some issue with the liver is possible. Alternative, it could be some sort of allergy, and I know that I have a few allergies, so this is just one more. But the cause? Too hard to say, and I don't have the time (or money) to go down the path of a thorough medical investigation.
Is it normal that I occasionally experience sudden waves of itching?
