...it is, and it's not. in the grander scheme of things, it's not, but you say you had a troubled past. can I assume, therefore, that something traumatic happened in your past? because, what you're describing sounds like a trigger affect, of sorts (not the mirror thing, but the freaking out when alone thing). in this instance, it's fairly normal for those with some form PTSD to be triggered into and episode, of sorts, when faced with a situation (smell, sound, etc.) similar to their traumatic event.
