Some people have what they would consider major side effects from SSRI's: for example, deepening depression, lethargy and loss of libido. There's also the HUGE problem of psychosis if you come off them too quickly
Ellenna, I agree that side effects can vary from person to person; but experiencing psychosis is EXTREMELY-SUPER unlikely (also, psychologists ween you off of SSRIs very slowly in order to avoid that exact issue).
I understand you only have this person's best interests in mind, but we must be careful not to discourage him/her from taking the necessary actions and seeing a psychologist.
