  • Any age. Many people with OCD and other anxiety disorders take medication in their childhood.
Extreme anxiety can be crippling, it's not something to ignore.
Talk to a psychologist and consider your options.

    • As soon as I find the time to do so... But I'm going to have to do a lot of research about the medication before I take it because i've heard a lot of negative side effects of like antidepressants and stuff

      • SSRIs (Prozac, Zoloft, etc) tend to have relatively minor side effects, as far as psychoactive medications go.
This type of medication is the most likely to be prescribed for someone in your situation.

        • I doubt my parents are going to want me to take medication, they're really against it because they keep saying "its all in your head"... I think my mom is realizing that my stress is a problem because she wants to take me to a therapist but idk I really don't have time for all of this

        • Some people have what they would consider major side effects from SSRI's: for example, deepening depression, lethargy and loss of libido. There's also the HUGE problem of psychosis if you come off them too quickly

          • Ellenna, I agree that side effects can vary from person to person; but experiencing psychosis is EXTREMELY-SUPER unlikely (also, psychologists ween you off of SSRIs very slowly in order to avoid that exact issue).
I understand you only have this person's best interests in mind, but we must be careful not to discourage him/her from taking the necessary actions and seeing a psychologist.
