Is it normal that i'm starting to wonder if i should leave iin?

I really love this site, and it's been a big part of my life for maybe four to five years, but now I feel like the Universe is telling me to take a break. Lately it's become so boring around here that it makes me sad, and I wonder if perhaps my time is best spent here less often. I really miss a lot of the people who used be regulars, but have since left. I don't know what to do, IIN? I never want to forsake you.

I was a regular on here then left three years ago. I left for two reasons, 1) I got very busy with a work project and had less time, and 2) I was tired of all the troll activity. I came back a few weeks ago. I was glad to see some of the fun and helpful regulars were still here. But it seems the troll activity is even worse and the average person here is a minor. Nothing against young people, but the subject areas are often things I don’t want to be discussing with minors. Both problems good moderators could control, but they don’t. I’ll probably leave soon, too. Too bad, it used to be a fun place and people could get good feedback.

Good moderation hasn't existed here for years.

    • I too have grown weary of the under 18 crowd coming in here, and wanting to ask lame questions about their "crushes". I also really hate the people who ask questions about incest, and even if such a person is actually asking such questions in earnest I still maintain that said person, or persons are trolls deep down inside.

        Under 18?
You mean the silly things like, "I think this guy in my English class likes me". I thought people posting stuff like that were at least 50.

Yep. There’s a difference between making posts because one craves attention and just stirring the pot to be annoying. Both trolls. Both not worth my time.

        • "Stirring the pot", interesting wording. If you're who I suspect you to be, then you'll probably get this. Otherwise, just ignore.

        • Oh yeah, I just can't stand the people who post about incest. They are sub-human.

If you have to ask you're probably not going to.

I left for a couple weeks and I never regretted it once. Never missed the site once. I came back today and regretted it immediately. I only did it out of boredom, the link was right there in my browser history and I tapped it out of compulsion. There’s just so many gross people here. Even the popular ones are problematic. Rose has great advice on some subjects but she posts some of the most disgustingly vile racist crap you’ll find. (Directed at Muslims in particular.) Nikki can be useful but then you see her insulting somebody for no reason, then later on in the same post calling somebody rude for something much more benign than what she said. I feel bad for the people like Twerkn who seem like they genuinely want to help people but you can see them getting worn down by all the toxic negatively.

It’s the same with social media, I drastically cut back on those and it significantly improved my life. I’ve talked to many others who’ve done the same and they all felt the same way.

I believe there’s something inherently toxic about habitually and casually perusing some websites...particularly any site that attracts trolls. Any place where a large number of people can easily interact, particularly without moderation, is just asking for trouble. I’ve started sticking to sites without comment sections - ESPN got rid of theirs fairly recently, though I’d stopped reading the comment sections for the most part it still occasionally happened out of habit and the result was almost always dreadful. There’s just too many terrible people out there. Those terrible people love to whine about safe spaces and bubbles and differences of opinion, not to mention political correctness and free speech and debates and tolerance, but that’s all just an excuse for being a terrible person. They just don’t want to be called out for being terrible. None of it’s actually valid. You know it’s not because they always cry from the rooftops when you talk to them the same way they talk to other people. I’ve proved that countless times on this website by mocking white men and watching them lose their minds over it. They want to be able to say and do whatever they want without consequences and they want dire consequences for anybody who days or does something they don’t like. It’s just gotten worse since one of those trolls was elected president by a minority of voters who just happen to live between the right randomly drawn and otherwise meaningless state borders.

After I post this I’m logging out, clearing my browser history, and hopefully never coming back.

    • Now you're making me sad. I think you have had some good comments here. I do probably spend too much time on here myself though.

I leave whenever I'm bored, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for months and last time for more than 1 year.

I miss some old users too. Like kinklu and dapple. *sigh*

  • I've considered leaving, this site frequently goes through boring spells. It's my fault, but if I actually post something weird and deep, I get no replies, or few of interest.

I'm too lazy to hunt down the perfect, moderately populated, simple interface, few ads, easy access forum website, so here I stay.
