You know what? Racism is still existent. Maybe you aren't racist, and y'know, that's great. But black people ARE still discriminated simply based on colour. Maybe not to the degree that it was years ago, but it still occurs, just more hidden. There is still KKK. So many people I know are racist, they'd never let their children marry a black man/woman, don't wanna associate with black people. Having a few advantages to being a minority will NEVER overcome the things many black people have to. And I'm not saying this of all people, but it does happen so don't pretend the small benefits outweigh that. And do you know why people say be proud of being black? I don't think anyone should be proud of their race, to be honest, but rather be their own individual. However, many black people in the past gave up on their own race and accepted white supremacy. And today, there are still some people like that, even if it's not as prominent. And it's sad, that you'd be ashamed of your own race. That's why people say be proud to be black, because black people have faced true adversity and oppression but continue to persevere. Now I'm not saying you can't be proud to be white, but it sounds to me like you want to be proud to be white simply for the sake of being proud. And y'know, there are black people who do that, be proud without knowing the true significance of what they are being proud. But those people are ignorant. And honestly, by posting all this, you sound ignorant too, sorry to say. If you give a real reason to be proud, well, then that's different. Why not be proud of yourself as a person for your achievements rather than your race?
Thank you, I love your comment. Everything you said makes sense, and I agree with you more than 100%.
What I was saying was to do with that portion of your paragraph about how some coloured (black or whatever colour) people act proud for no reason. I'm saying I'm proud of the white people (including myself) that I know that have gotten a lot of racist commentary from coloured people simply for being white, I'm proud of us for not retaliating. Not trying to get back, I've never EVER uttered a racist comment to another human being in my life and I have received so so SO many just for being white. I love your paragraph, thank you for it.
Is it normal that I'm proud to be white?
