  • I live in Florida in the middle of the state so when we get hurricanes they're never as bad as they are on the coasts. A lot of people enjoy a good hurricane party. It's fun to stock up on food and booze and other supplies and spend time with friends and family playing cards or board games under candle or battery light when the power goes out at night. It feels like camping but in an urban area and is a real bonding experience. I had neighbors set off fireworks when the eye of hurricane Charley passed by. Definate pro move.

That being said I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Especially low lying coastal communities with a lot of poor people. New Orleans was absolutely devastated by Katrina, people lost their lives, homes, and businesses. It took decades for the city to recover and some families and communities still haven't. I understand enjoying a hurricane in a place that won't get ravaged by it, but somewhere else likely will though and you shouldn't want that.
