Well it's unusual (and I think you know it since you apparently have spent time in Japan and made a post about it), but it doesn't make you any less Japanese.
Some people just have really Hitler-esque standards of purity and what every race is "supposed" to look like. Some of my Dad's family have been told they shouldn't call themselves white because they're "too dark" to be European, while I came out a lot lighter and I'm "too light" to be Maltese. Which is it? It's just silly.
