I am not too keen on going to bars every weekend, but I do enjoy going when it's a birthday party. I think you should at least go for a bit, and leave early if you wish. He can stay with his friends.
In my group of friends, (i'm 23 so it's not that different) we also have bbqs in the park. we also meet up to go to the beach sometimes. or to go bowling! or cinema. or eat out for somebodys birthday.

We had crocodile and kangaroo burgers the other day.
Usually just normal burgers, some sausages and veggies -potatoes mainly.
