I don't know if it's normal, but it's not a real problem unless it truly alienates you from everyone around you. But it doesn't sound like that's the case. I absolutely adore animals, but personally, I love the depth that human interaction can bring. I live in anticipation of the next great conversation I'll have with someone.
There's poetry in the pure simple love I remember with my childhood dog - I'd rest my head on her belly or she'd rest hers on mine, and we'd just take a nap. But there's something incomparably beautiful to me about the gravity of the human, joy and sadness alike, we're passionate beings.
But of course I can't blame you for finding more poetry in other animals. They're pretty amazing too.
