Your parents reaction isn't normal... But therpeople couple people I've met who's lives might be better had their parents reacted like that. Mainly because they have health or psychological problems that have become much worse because of drug use.
Occasional weed smoking done in the appropriate time and place can be great. For me its on par with having a couple drinks. But based on many of the stories I've heard most illicit things are fun because they're illicit. But, when the consequences become too great, illicit isn't fun anymore. By that point you're hooked on the real or percieved benifits of the act, or you give it up.
Considering your situation and the risks you're taking because of the way your family has decided to handle it, it's great that you've lost interest. Whether your parents are right or wrong, following their rules is the easiest thing to do in most cases.
If at some later point in your life it seems like fun, and you're not facing the familial consequences, go ahead and try it. Just be smart about it.
