Maybe you're enjoying the challenge of getting what you want far more than thing you're actually after. I think most people are like that, to a certain extent.
You just have to get better at telling the difference between the two, so that you'll know what's worth going after and what is not.
I realize that you think you want these things very much at the time you want them, but most people, once they've reached that peak, are able to remind themselves of how lucky they are and continue to feel grateful for what they've acquired.
