Is it normal that i like to harm my gums?

Last month I really got into the habit of picking at my gums. I started scraping them with a knife, then moved on to toothpicks. I just enjoy the sensation and the visual of blood on my teeth. I also enjoy flossing really hard in certain areas. It gives me an amazing headrush.

The gums above one of my lateral incisors receded because of the picking and scraping, and I'm working on the opposite one to "even it out."

I've also taken to putting salt in the open wounds in my mouth, just to feel the sensation.

And I like to save my used toothpicks that get really bloody by putting them in a plastic ziplock bag and keeping them as some kind of memento.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

I used to poke my gums with pointy sharp objects. So strange but I did it. It felt oddly good

Fairly normal, and I think most people do something like this to themselves. Not saying it's necessarily good for you. I have a habit of poking or jabbing things into my ears, like wooden matches, drill bits, q-tips with no cotton on the ends, anything pointy and sharp, just for the sensation and possible harm. The scratching of an itch feels good, too, but that's not even required.

If it bleeds or hurts, I'm ok with it. Just feels good.

Critical body parts are a bad choice for self-harm. Self-harm your ass instead.

SPYMAN This is near a major artery and could have serious consequences if something gets perforated. I recommend sticking to your gums..Clearly you don't know the importance of your "ASS".
