Bar past experiences people who eat dirt are usually suffering from a disorder called pica, can be caused by low iron levels if I remember correctly.
Or they are secretly giant earthworms
Well yeah that's the obvious answer of course, I didn't even feel like that was worth mentioning it was so obvious ;)
