Humans are morbidly curious, so to expose your self to violent imagery is not uncommon but too much and one may become desensitized to such things giving you a skewed outlook on life.
Intrusive thoughts
You can think of the most cruel, vile and taboo things but never act on them. Unfortunately though, some people do act on them. The ability to refrain oneself and distinguish what is right and wrong, that is what differentiates between normality and abnormality. The people that tend to act on these thoughts are usually the ones stricken by mental illness but this isn't always the case however. someone who feels they have been wronged may be fueled by anger and despair, causing them to retaliate in ways in which they never thought possible.
Seeing a counselor is a good thing and maybe you should express how you feel in depth. You don't have to go into detail in terms of how gory your thoughts are but try to discuss ways in which you can combat intrusive thinking. Maybe you are suffering from depression also? Depression does all sorts of weird things so consider looking into it.
