I get this a lot when I take a nap on the couch, something with sleeping on my back causes it. It's called sleep paralysis. You feel as though you're trapped, like your mind has woken up before your body and no matter how hard you will yourself to move and snap out of it to wake up, you can't. Most often I just "see" my surroundings and "see" or "hear" people come in the room and it's very confusing as to whether it's real or not. I can imagine if you experience this while having a bad dream, it could be quite horrifying.
