Production-wise, they went all out to make Avatar.
Plot-wise, to me the story line seemed awfully familiar.
I thought, "In 100+ years haven't we learned anything at all? Now we're exploiting planets just like we did to a lot of other cultures in the past" ...
Some people have said that Avatar's storyline is similar to "Dances with Wolves".
I can relate to the incredible sadness with both movies.
I was thinking in the similar manner to you upon the Plot-Wise aspects. I think of the shit that humanity is going to suffocate itself with. We have barely (Considering the amount of time since we became what we are, Big-Bang Theory or Religious view) been on the planet, and look what we have already become. I sometimes wish I was born in an earlier time, away from technology and such, in a more primal time, regardless of the weak points, like disease and non-technological assistance with agriculture and such the like.
