I don't know if it's normal, but I do it too. I've had a fictional rock band since I was around 7 years old. All of the people have families, wives, kids, friends, etc. They have also aged in real time. I'm now 29 years old and still have this fantasy world in my head, mostly when I'm bored. I have a related story on this site.
I really thought I would eventually grow out of it.
