Is it normal that I have afraid of asking for things? ANYTHING?

  • it's funny that you say that because it is eerily similar to myself- as in a mirror image. I have always hated asking for anything from others-especially friends for some bazaar reason- but i went on an exchange trip to France just this past summer and i really felt it. I think it has to do with being afraid you are burdening people and that they will dislike you because of that and not associate with you or something. the truth is most people want to help you especially your host family. communication is the best thing in that situation. I know the language barrier is something of a brick wall and also telling you to just ask them is pretty stupid because it doesn't work that way- i know from experience- but you just need to know that they wont dislike you or abandon you if you ask for something. get to know them as much as possible it'll help you get along. I had a particularly difficult time with my family because i kept to myself- not to mention didn't get along with my host student but that's beside the point- there were many people who had great experiences and you can too. just by going on the trip you are expanding your boundaries and that's a big step if you get along with your family, communicate with them, and even ask for some things you're way ahead of me.
