  • I had this problem, it is caused by a hair follicle that grows inwardly it can grow into the coxis and is extremely painful when it finally takes hold, one of only a few operations were the womb must heal from the inside put and cannot be stitched, the hole has to be packed with guse and saline baths need to be taken daily to remove packing & replace with clean dressings. 6 weeks min of work if you leave it to late. I woke up one morning and could not walk due to the pain I was rushed into hospital emergency opp. I have a large scar at the base of my spine now but it wad 30 years ago,
Get to your doctor ASAP and get it sorted

    • Thanks everyone for the advice! I have been to a doctor- turns out it's just an abscess from sitting down a lot (I've had a lot of uni revision lately so barely left my desk!). I'm waiting for a slot at the Surgical Assessment Unit so they can decide whether to pop it or leave it alone. I have antibiotics anyway. It's usually hairy guys who get infected pilonidal sinuses (which turn into pilonidal cysts/abscesses), and I'm a girl so mine is more than likely just from sitting down a lot. Thanks guys!
