Because there's going to be an element of jealousy here. The guy is going to be saying to himself, "Wait, why does she see HIM in that way but not ME?"
I understand what you're saying but this situation is different, he's strictly a friend partially because he dated a girl from my high school, my ex is friends with him and i don't think we are suited to each other in any way.
