Yeah, I think this is normal. Although, I'm a woman, and I don't have trouble relating to male characters.
I've also sensed this streak running through a lot of games with female protagonists, that reeks of feminism.
Sometimes they stick things in the dialogue, that makes in apparent that they're making a political statement. If it's just chill, with no politics, then it's good though.
