Is it normal that I hate the UK?

  • Hmm... I'm British and can see upsides to this country along with some DEFINATE downsides. You mention how the people you're with drink a couple of times a week and I get the impression this isn't really your thing. It's not mine either and I'm embarrassed by the amount of binge drinking that goes on in this country. It's a massive problem and it needs addressing. But we currently have a government full of privelliged toffs who don't really know how to approach social issues related to excessive drinking. That's part of the problem. Our next election is in 2015... yay.

I'm sorry you're not enjoying yourself here, but there are nice, interesting people too, honest! And we don't all like X Factor (eurgh!) If you get the chance and have the money, try exploring a couple of other areas in the UK. If you go to London, do your research first. There are some interesting places, but other parts are just full of impolite workaholics! Also, I genuinely think there's an issue of a kind of mass depression in the UK at the moment - the attitudes and tendancy to be negative about everything don't fit very well with the whole economic situation and the government are making cuts all over the place. Lastly, I hope you get to meet some more like-minded people in your remaining time here.

    • Erm... somehow I thought this post was newer! Sorry. So, the two years is now up and you may not even have an IIN account anymore! But if you do... how did it work out in the end?
