I don't understand it either but I try not to be judgemental of what I don't understand. That can be hard to do sometimes. I think for people who self harm it gives them an addreline rush similar to drugs, sex, gambling, etc. I know a stereotype is that they do it for attention and while some do, it is more common that that is not why. The most common answer seems to be addreline rush.
