I dunno, I feel like the phrase "The ends never justify the means," is kind of dumb. You should compare the means to the ends instead. If someone starts doing charity just to make themselves look good, they're still making the world an objectively better place in the process. Don't bother overanalyzing people's motivations.
However, if someone is being irritating about being an exercise guru, that's a end you can take issue with.
