Is it normal that i hate my accent

I'm from the southern US from an educated but extremely southern family, and I simply cannot get rid of my twang. Even in urban places in the South, people tell me I sound like a hillbilly. Anyone else stuck with an accent they hate?

  • Russian accent.
People always tell me I sound like I'm threatening them or that I sound like I'm "cruel and cold"

I work at a fruit and flower shop.

English isn't my mother-tongue and I wish I could have a British accent but it's hard to achieve.

Good female friend of mine still has her British accent, and always says hates it. People love it, though. She's beautiful as it is, long, dark-red/brown curly hair, sweet smile, so pretty face. Just gorgeous. The accent only adds to it, very sexy.

She also knows when to turn it on. Has an office job now, but, when was bartending, knew when to throw out the "luv" and other British-type statements. Guys went crazy for both she and the accent.

She really is..Would flip the "Brit switch" at both bars she worked at, and guys were just putty in her hands. Knew what she was doing.

The difference between being seen as a hillbilly or a southern belle/cowboy all comes down to one thing: how attractive you are. Work on improving your appearance and that accent will only be an asset.

I dislike my accent as well.
Im from Thailand, but my main language is english since I lived in the UK for most of my life, in primary school it got pointed out but it wasn't like middle school, I suppose I have broken english? it's normal though, maybe when you grow up your accent will change, I think it may depend on places you live.

Meh, it can go either way for me. It's either very endearing or hardly understandable. I don't have much of an accent as far as I'm concerned. Jersey shore, nothing special. Only a few words have that special touch to them. Like water...woulder, coffee, kawfee, dog, dawg..and so on. I also say dude a lot. Like a whole lot. Whateverrrr.

I caught my self saying "brudda" to my boy the other day chatting while smoking a joint... Jersey Shore but from North Jersey but have also worked in 609 South Jersey and picked up some of those counry/Philadelphian tendencies to "front" your "o" sound off the front of your mouth and throw it straight out there.... Like "phoone.. idk. Other than that I have a real New York/Hudson County, NJ accent.

But it'll do. I rather have this accent in comparison to others even tho It stands across America.

You're not stuck with an accent. Many actors successfully lose their accent when performing a part. If you really want to lose the accent, go see a voice and speech coach.

I like my accent. When I have been abroad, people have complimented and said it sounded sexy.

Sometimes I have tried to imitate a British accent, but some people complained and said i sound cuter when i speak the way i actually speak.
