It depends on the group though - and the target audience.
I took my boyfriend to a Yes / Styx concert last year. Between the two shows there was a SERIOUS difference in the crowd.
When Yes was playing, most of the crowd seemed to be old hippies. There was some noise and sections where the band wanted the audience to participate but... they also were quiet when they really wanted to hear the music.
On the flip-side, when Styx was up, the crowd got louder, and a little bit ruder.
So I guess the answer is... listen to old Progressive Rock for live concerts. cos old hippies aren't so noisy. =)
Honestly I'm not sure if they were or weren't. Not all yes fans are stoners. I am quite content just listening to the music without other substances getting in the way.
Although I was disappointed that Jon wasn't part of the tour. They hired a tribute-band singer Benoît David to fill in for Jon for an album and some tours. He's good, sounds a lot like Jon, but ... not the same.
(besides I was looking forward to Jon's flaky stories! =) )
Is it normal that I hate live recorded music?

Because they're high.
It's hard to be noisy and exciteable while high.
Wish I was there :(
