  • Seems to me American voters are between a rock and a hard place with these two options.

Trump may be a loudmouthed bigot but his forthright views clearly resonate with enough Americans to make the outcome of the approaching election too close to call. You also have to ask what his popularity says about all those who support his view.

Does it suggest all of Trump's backers are bigots, too? Or, is it because they see him as a refreshing change from successive politicians who talk a great game but deliver nothing when it comes to the tough decisions?

Clinton appears to be the classic, false as a nine dollar bill, 'Feed 'em any BS as long as it gets me elected' snake oil vendor. And when you put this together with a less than glowing CV, it doesn't exactly iinstil confidence that she'll be any different to her beloved, 'I did not have sexual relations with that woman', Billy.

We have this constant flip-flop political garbage fed to us all the time in the UK, too. Fancy BS speeches full of empty, tell 'em what they want to hear, rhetoric with no intention whatsoever of honouring their 'promises'. Once they're in power it's, 'great job, guys, now we're in the driving seat, let's just get on with doing whatever the fuck we like.'

For all his big talk I don't see many of those grand, Trump, headline grabbing ideas seeing the light of day. A wall spanning all four states across the border with Mexico? A ban on Muslims (even the watered down version)? I doubt any of this will come to pass - and his entourage certainly wouldn't allow Trump anywhere near the nuclear button.

But such pipe dreams tug at the heartstrings of so many Americans who are angry that the problems of immigration and Muslim inspired terrorism are not being effectively addressed (if addressed at all). And by virtue of the fact that Trump has dared to tap into that anger which he knows has little, if any, mainstream outlet, he's been able to get so many of those angry Americans on board.

Witch or bigot? Hate both if you like but one or t'other is going to be your President very soon.

    • Doesn’t help that this is the first time I get to vote.

      • That's a tough break - your first chance to throw in your two cents and you don't favour either choice.

I think Billy Connolly was right when he said the desire to be a politician should bar anyone from ever being one.
