Facebook is a striptease of people life's.
I have it to but I don't have hundreds or thousands of friends. I have my closest friends only. I never put there anything that might compromise me. Pictures or personal information. Politics, religious and strong opinions I have about this or that.
I use it mainly to share information about music, all kind of culture events around the place were I live or books I find interesting.
With some discipline Facebook is a good thing.
