Being white DOES come with a fair amount of privilege in the United States. You're less likely to be suspected by the police and more likely to be spoken to in an intelligent manner by a detective. People will see your race, if you are black, and automatically assume your education level and criminal background often just because of your race and it makes it a pain in the ass when the people in charge (whether it be social services or the criminal justice system) are mainly white.
Don't be ashamed. I'm not. Hell, I have taken advantage of it.
