Because when somebody becomes angry, sad, ect, they become more animated. This is more exciting than a person in a normal state, so it peaks your interest.
It's the same as a sadist being turned on by others pain, it's not the actual pain that does it, it's the expression of pain on the other persons face/body via movement and sound. You are probably mildly masochistic, they are the opposite and like having the negative directed at them rather than directing it towards others.
