Is it normal that i feel this bad about the holocaust?

I was born decades after it ended, but I am half German and I just feel and guilty about the whole thing.

Whenever someone brings it up in conversation of I see something about it on TV, I can't help but feel really embarrassed and guilty about it.

I feel like part of me did this. Part of me killed six million innocent people.

It's history, not genetics. Politics, not family. You are not to blame. Think of the good things to come from Germany, instead. The art, the philosophy, the music, the writers, and the engineering.

    And Franka Potente.

it's good to feel bad but don't let it take over you. I think jewish people today need the recognition from others that it was a horrible horrible thing. Not something to be forgotten and not something that should ever be repeated

  • I see white guilt has really gotten to you OP. I'm almost full German and I don't feel bad at all. Do you even know the GOOD things the Nazis did? No, they wouldn't teach that in school would they? Here, maybe this will easy your poorly placed pain:

Thousands of Germans starved in the streets of Germany on a daily basis because Jews refused to hire them, for not being Jews. Remember that old term, "what goes around comes around"? Yeah well, sometimes it's literal.

First of all, 12 million people died in the Holocaust. We just hear about the 6 million Jews for whatever reason. I guess gentiles don't count. Why should you feel guilty? You didn't do it. You've been brainwashed into feeling like you should feel guilty and that's really sad. They teach us about it in America as if Americans were responsible for it.

In modern times they're trying to make all white western people feel guilty about things that happened in the past. In the US it is slavery and Indians. Don't buy into it.

I'm German, and I can tell you, that your so-called guilt is baseless, pointless, a hindrance, and honestly an insult to every non-national socialist German in history, let alone the current population.

You are not at fault, and neither are we. I am not any more responsible for my grandfathers actions than you are.

And you Americans seem to forget that you aren't as innocent as you claim to be. Or am I wrong in stating that equal rights for non-Caucasians is something quite recent. Before the 20th century even began, having black slaves was a social norm, and not just a few were tortured, misused, or even murdered.

That aside, your German heritage is most likely from before or after the second world war. Meaning that your family most likely had nothing to with it.

Collective responsibility and punishment aren't things that belong in modern society. Groundless feelings of guilt and responsibility will only hold you back. Get over it.

12 million. But yes, it's normal to feel bad about what happened, but remember-it isn't your fault. You weren't even around then, and there's nothing you could have done about it if you were.

Try reading up on the plight of the Palastinians then you might find it hard to feel sorry for the jews. If the jews seem to have fotgotten how it feels to be persecuted why should you care

I'm part German and I don't feel a shred of guilt or bad feelings towards it.
