Lots of countries eat dog and I don't have a problem with it. Who is to say that I can eat one animal and not another? The distinction between livestock and pet is subjective.
Sled dogs are often eaten as a survival tactic in the far north.
Unfortunately we are always going to be stereotyped, just remember anyone worth knowing will look beyond a stereotype and those closed mined fools who cannot deserve our pity.
