  • Yes, well, some people are ignorant and uninformed. You are not Chinese. 'China' is a word to describe people who live in a region of east Asia, that is probably derived from the 'Qin' dynasty, and applied by Persians and/or people who spoke Sanskrit in India. It is a word that describes a political entity, and not a people. Since you do not live in the Peoples Republic of China, you are not Chinese.
So what are you? You are most likely a person of Han ancestry. If you are, it is up to you whether or not to break it down further into one of the various subgroups. However, you might also be from one of the at least 56 distinctly different tribes (ethnic groups) who live in modern China.
So, if you run into these idiots, instead of becoming annoyed, ask them what tribe(s) they are from. 'White' is not a tribe, but 'Caucasian' is. If they identify themselves as Caucasoid, they probably will hate many other people who are also Caucasian in ancestry.
It is important to understand, that the two major groups (Caucasoids and Mongoloids) in the northern hemisphere, originated from a common population in central Asia, then migrated east and west. There are people living today in central Asia that share genetic traits from both groups, not through interbreeding, but because they never left, and both groups diversified from them.
A person with ancestry from the British Isles, is most likely a mixture of different tribes, including Hellenes, various Celts, Latins/Etruscans, and various Germanic tribes.
